A Christian newspaper, 'Christimes' was launched by the Don Bosco Provincial House, last week.
Editor of the paper, Salesian Father Gilbert Choondal, told SAR News: "If newspapers existed in the time of Christ, how would they have looked? The events surrounding the birth of Jesus form perhaps the world's most famous and beloved story.
Would they have reported the massacre of the innocents in Bethlehem? Would they have reported King Herod's wicked plans? Would the shepherds have been courageous enough to report what they witnessed to the media?"
"This unique paper traces news back to the time of Jesus; it attempts to show how a newspaper would have been if there were one then," he said.
Describing its purpose, Father Choondal said: "We are taking the faithful to that imaginary media world of the times of the Gospels to bring alive the 2000-year-old story and to make it relevant, meaningful and faith formative."
Father Gilbert claimed that over 5,000 copies were sold on the day of its release. With the tag line containing a quote from the Isaiah 61:1 "To bring the Good News!" the Christian prelate asserts, "Our aim is to bring back the times of Christ alive today. Our newspaper narrative may not be as compelling as the Gospels but we hope this will inform, form and transform your life."
