Gospel Hungama 2004 – a fun–filled evening for a serious cause

Mulund, Mumbai – Gospel Hungama 2004, an evening of worship, praise and entertainment was organized by All India United Christian League at the Kalidas Auditorium at Mulund on Sunday 26th Sept 2004. This program, that was well attended, also witnessed the formal launch of All India United Christian League which has been formed to provide valuable services not only for the welfare to its community but also to the society as a whole through social services, adventures, sports, cultural and other activities. All India United Christian League (AIUCL) stands for the unity among Christians of all denominations and works on projects that would bring all denominations together and be of benefit to the society as a whole to achieve new initiatives and new goals.

“It was some time back last year when all the Christians of various denominations had come together for a one day fast cum agitation at Mulund East (Mumbai) for the purpose of getting cemetery for the Christians, at that time I happened to speak to Father Rufus of St. Pius Church, Mulund and shared with him the concern of the Christians, only coming together for a specific cause and remaining disunited for the general welfare of the community,” shared Joiel Akilan, the President of AIUCL.

Singer Anil Kant, famous for the PRAY for INDIA album, enthralled the audience with his songs and his troupe did many choreographed dances on his songs. Mr. Raja B Singh a Chartered Accountant and National President of Gideons International and Rev. S.R.Mony Senior pastor of the Methodist Church and John M John General Manager of Ceat Tyres were among the Chief Guests present on the occasion. On this occasion, a Souvenir called ‘Genesis’ was also released. The event was managed by the Gospel Rockers – the Event management unit of AIUCL headed by Nagaraj Naidu.

“An old Legend says that after God had created the World, he called the angels and asked them what they thought of it. One of them said, “ the only thing lacking is the sound of praise to the creator”. So God created Music and it was heard in the whisper of the wind and in the songs of the birds. We all share the same music to praise our Lord and hence we planned to unite our friends through Gospel Music and hence we are having Gospel Hungama 2004,” said Joiel Akilan.

“Many People came expecting that this event would be another type of prayer meeting but we wanted this to be a novel concept basically a Christian entertainment program containing songs, choreographed dances, Rock band & Bhangra, keeping this in mind we had suggested the name Gospel Hungama 2004,” said Selvin Moses, the Organizing Secretary.

“All India United Christian League team consists of Lawyers, Bankers, Teachers, Engineers, MBA’s, Church Leaders, Pastors etc. who would like to render their services and support the Christians in need and would also be a guide to the youth and children in choosing their careers and vocation. All India United Christian League also aims to be the united voice of all Christians in India," said Joiel Akilan.

“All India united Christian League is also planning to have many need based projects like medical check up camps, blood donations, Tree plantations, Anti Drug Rallies, Aids awareness programs, career guidance, prayer rallies etc.,” said Jeeva Joseph, General secretary of AIUCL.

The program was concluded by vote of thanks by Sunil Kumar, Vice President of AIUCL and also the President of Business Men Fellowship International Thane Chapter. The program ended by a benediction Prayer from Pastor Thomas Mathew founder of many churches under the banner of The Church of Barakha.

"We want Gospel Hungama’s to happen all over India and next year we will have Gospel Hungama 2005," said Executive Member Anil Edwards.
