The northeast state of Nagaland got its first internet-based Christian radio on Monday, Dec. 3.
The Nagaland Christian Radio (NCR) was launched by Chotisuh Sazo, parliamentary secretary for social welfare.
Speaking at the launch, Chotisuh said the radio will reach to the unreached and will also set an example to other non-Christian states and countries.
The radio is a joint venture of Highland Dawn Media (HDM), Nagaland and Chennai Christian Radio (CCR).
Highland Dawn Media is a leading Kohima-based TV House. It currently telecasts three regular weekly TV programs covering northeast India and 125 countries through FETV.
Bob Swaggerty, the founder of Chennai Christian Radio, said he felt the need for Christian radio when he came to India 5 years ago.
He later started the CCR in 2010. It has some 700 listeners per day and about 60,000 tune in's per month.
Bob, who is a radio broadcasting engineer with 15 years experience, said he planned to start a radio channel in Nagaland after seeing the passion for music among young Nagas.
Besides playing Christian music from across the globe, the NCR will also feature local artists and church youth groups.
The Nagaland Christian Radio can be accessed on the website www.nagalandchristianradio.com. Besides listening to songs, visitors to the website can view the lyrics of the song, the artist and album name. Additionally, the recently played songs can also be viewed.
The radio will be soon accessible on various mobile platforms including iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Nokia devices.
