Genesis 5:24 NIV: Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
Just who was this man: Enoch? We have very little information about him. Very little to go on regarding his life and sudden disappearance. Where did God take him? Why did God take him? Enoch´s story occupies only a few verses of scripture, yet his life left an indelible mark on the pages of Biblical history as well as on the hearts of those who seek God.
The writer of Hebrews tells us, "By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God" (Heb. 11:5).
It is safe to say that most of us will one day die. And though Enoch´s life is commemorated by the fact he was taken away, our lives could be remembered by what we leave behind. We may not find our names in scripture to say that we´ve been taken. But perhaps, etched in stone to mark our graves, we´ll find these words inscribed: One who walked with God; one who pleased God.
